I have finally admitted to myself that I have a butterfly brain, incapable of staying on one flower for any length of time, consequently, I have a long list of UFOs to my credit. I get inspired by a new workshop, quilt pattern, new fabric range or YouTube video and off I go again. I felt ‘lock down’ would be the perfect time to complete all those UFOs plus a good clear out and reorganisation of my sewing room, but, of course, this didn’t happen and I felt guilty for wanting to try something new and ended up doing not very much. I have decided to be kinder to myself and if I fancy trying something new I am doing to give it a go! I found the quote below on Facebook and feel it encourages those amongst us that like to try something new - even though we won’t necessarily reach perfection - to not hold back and embrace new experiences.

I spent a very enjoyable day at FoQs. The extra space was a delight and although some of the big companies were absent there was plenty of opportunity for buying bits and pieces and a fertile ground  for inspiration. I bought a ‘slippery mat’ for my sewing machine to help with free motion quilting. I may be able to progress from straight lines to something more complicated. Watch this space.

We have struggled to run any physical events but hope our event on 21 November 2021 at The Tillage Hall in Waterbeach will be able to go ahead. We have Allison from ‘Sheepythings’ who will give a talk on her ‘40 year journey in textiles to sheep making’. The cost will also include being able to make 2 sheep (with tinsel collars that will look great on the Christmas tree!). In the afternoon we will have various mini workshops making decorations in fabric and wrapping paper printing.

Can I please ask that you sign up for this and other events as soon as possible so we know they are viable. Refreshments will be provided but please bring a packed lunch. We have been able to reduce the cost of these events as we no longer have to raise thousands of £££££’s to pay for printing and posting Kaleidoscope.

“I don’t think being good at things is the point of doing them. I think you’ve got all these wonderful experiences with different skills, and that all teaches you things and makes you an interesting person, no matter how well you do them.”
